   Mari's Almond Brittle

1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons water
1 teaspoon white Karol syrup
1 cup toasted chopped almonds (1/2 go in the brittle, 1/2 to top the brittle)
Chocolate chips

Toast almonds in 350 degree oven for 5 - 7 minutes or longer depending on your oven.  But watch them carefully.  They will turn slightly brown.  Then chop up in blender. Or blend first and then toast.  Melt butter on medium heat, and then add sugar, water, syrup stirring until melted.  Turn up heat to medium high and stir to soft ball or 290 degrees. Immediately add 1/2 cup of toasted chopped almonds to brittle and pour in cookie sheet with edge.  Spread as thin as you like.  Wait a couple of moments then drop Chocolate chips on top.  Add the rest of the almonds on top of chocolate.  Let sit until the brittle cools and chocolate sets. I put in refrigerator to hurry up.  Then break it up and keep in air tight container.
